Broker, platform or data feed? What Replica actually connects to
Tradovate, Rithmic, TopstepX, TradingView, Quantower: which is the broker account, which is the platform, and what to add in Replica.
Futures traders mix three different things under the word “broker”. Knowing which is which tells you exactly what to connect in a trade copier.
The three layers
| Layer | What it does | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Account (broker or prop firm) | Holds the money, or the evaluation, and the positions. | Your prop firm, or your futures broker |
| Trading connection | The technology that carries orders and fills for that account. | Tradovate, Rithmic, ProjectX / TopstepX |
| Platform | The screen you chart and click on. | TradingView, Tradesea, Quantower, Sierra Chart, ATAS, NinjaTrader |
Rithmic, for example, is not a prop firm and not a charting program. It is the connection many firms and brokers run their accounts on, and many platforms can trade through it.
What Replica connects to
Replica connects to the trading connection: Tradovate (NinjaTrader included), Rithmic or ProjectX / TopstepX. It copies the fills on the account, so the platform you click in does not matter. One login there brings in every account under it.
- Your firm gave you a Rithmic username and System name: add Rithmic, whatever platform you use.
- You sign in on Tradovate or NinjaTrader: add Tradovate or NinjaTrader.
- Your account is on TopstepX: add ProjectX (Topstep).
And the data feed?
Charts need market data, which your platform gets from its own data subscription. Replica shows no charts and needs no data feed of its own: it reads your positions and fills from the trading connection.
Which connection each platform uses: trading platforms.
